DI-ELECTRIC  MEASUREMENTS- Method of  Testing

  A. INSULATION RESISTANCE
Insulation resistance of the mat checked with 5000 È Meggav is 100000 MW which is being checked after filling the inner cavity of the sample made as per the specified designs of I.S.I. for testing.  The water is kept in the avity for 24 hours at room temp. and as such two electrodes of 25 MM and 75 MM dia are kept in the water and the insulation resistance checked after one minute of application of the voltage.  The insulation resistance is checked on the sample piece of size 150 MM x 150 MM. The above said test proves to be a material of highly insulated property which is a good source of protection of the workers operating and handling equipment in Switchgear and control rooms.

  B.   PROOF VOLTAGE
Class Thickness Proof Voltage KV
   A up to 3.3 KV 2.0 MM 10
   B 3.3 KV to 11 KV 2.5 MM 22
   C 11 KV to 33 KV 3.0 MM 36
   D 33 KV to 66 KV 3.5 MM 70

A sample piece of sheet of Insulating material of size 1270 x 1270 MM of thickness 3 MM is cut, which has 762 x 762 MM opening at the center.  It is placed on the grounded metal plate.  The opening is filled with conductive material so that it may come in contact with the same level of the sample piece to maintain direct contact with the mat. The mat is placed over the grounded electrode and wet pad of approximately the same size as the ground electrode is placed on top of the mat.  The wet pad is energized with test voltage which is as per the chart above at “B” of Proof Voltage.  The test is deemed to be successful if the specified voltage is reached.
(a) to maintain for 3 minutes for type test
(b) to maintain for 1 minute for routine test

From the conclusion of the above test, it is clear that the insulating mat is meant for safety of the workers to prevent any harm of any nature such as total burn or even death in some cases.

The mat has also requirement for update of the safety measures in switchgear and other electrical operation zones.
