DI-ELECTRIC MEASUREMENTS- Method of Testing

  C. LEAKAGE CURRENT
Leakage current of the insulated mat is negligible which is about 0.7 mA at 22 KV. Thus this insulating mat provides full protection for the worker working in Switchgear and other allied electrical installations.

  D. FLASHOVER
An arc by passing an insulating body and occurring between electrode and over or around but not through the equipment. Thermal Properties

  i] Flame Retardance
A test piece of size 150 MM x 150 MM is placed above the flame of 20 + 2 MM blue flame from a nozzle of dia 9.5 + 0.5 M for 10 S to cause the fire on mat and withdrawn.

ii] Effect of Acids, Alkalis, Diesel and Transformer Oil
The test piece shall be conditioned by immersion in each medium (30 percent concentrated acid, 30 percent concentrated alkalis, diesel and Transformer oil for 48 hours at room temperature. After conditioning the test piece dried for 4 hours at room temperature. Tensile and elongation checked and measured :

Elongation Test 250%
Tensile Strength  15 /MM2

  iii] Extreme low temperature
Three pieces of 200 MM x 500 MM shall be cut and placed in a chamber for 24 hours + 0.5 h at a temp of -40 + 3ºC. Two polyethylene plates of 200 MM x 200 MM x 5 MM thick are also conditioned. Within 1 minute after removal from the chamber the mat is folded at the mid point and placed between two polyethylene plates and subjected to force of 100 N for 30 S.

The test is deemed successful if no tear break or crack is visible.
The insulated mat provides full proof protection to the workers operating switchgear and handling equipment in Grid substations and 11 KV sub-stations.
The sheet has a higher insulation resistance made of highly insulated material free from all metallic contacts thus providing full protection to workers handling electrical equipment.
